Recognising that women empowerment and gender equality is an underlying pivot for the achievement of the programme purposes and indicators, Enhancing National Response to HIV/AIDS (ENR) consciously mainstream gender through development of strategies and works with various target groups to ensure that those most vulnerable to HIV infection are reached and accesses services and information.
One of the target groups that is recognised to have considerable influence is the faith group, and ENR works with this group to achieve its prevention intervention objectives.
In 2011, ENR in commencing engagement with the FBOs in Ogun state conducted an assessment which served as baseline, seeking to understand the knowledge, attitudes and practices that predispose faithful to HIV infection.
The findings of the assessment revealed critical issues around gender that need to be addressed. Hence further analysis and interrogation of the findings from the gender perspectives. Currently, it is in its draft and needs to be finalised into a printable form.
