Department: Rig Operations
Job Summary:
- Supervise the drilling operations and associated activities and ensure it is in accordance with the well program.
- Ensure drilling operations are carried out in a safe, efficient and productive manner.
Responsibilities:
EHSQ Management
- Ensure subordinates understand and apply guidelines of the Company QHSE manual and rig specific procedures.Authority I
- Inform the Senior Toolpusher or OIM of any incidents, potential hazards or abnormal situations. Authority I
- Actively participate in the weekly meetings, Quality Improvement Plan program, and all other Company safety management systems. Authority I
- Ensure that kick drills are carried out regularly and recorded. Authority I
- Ensure a high standard of hygiene and housekeeping is maintained onboard the rig. Authority I
People Development
- Meets the training requirements as per the applicable training matrix Authority I
- Mentor, develop and train crew members to ensure they are competent to work at their next job level.Authority II
- Provide leadership and motivation to rig personnel. Authority I
- Ensure all subordinates receive an annual performance appraisal.
- Recommend promotion or disciplinary action up to and including discharge.Authority I
- Assist in training to ensure all personnel are competent to perform their allocated job. Authority I
- Make recommendations for promotions. Authority II
Duties and Responsibilities:
Operations/Maintenance
- Ensure pre-job meeting is carried out for all non-routine drilling operations.Authority I
- Ensure the Driller is informed on an ongoing basis as to the well program objectives and communicate any changes in plans. Authority I
- Monitor the maintenance, repair and installation of all drilling equipment including repair, lubrication, maintenance records, and inventory levels. Authority I
- Maintain records of inspections and certification of drilling equipment, tools and tubular.Authority I
- Ensure the mud mixing systems and solid control equipment are being monitored constantly and properly maintainedAuthority I
- Relieve the Driller at the Driller’s console as operational requirement demands.Authority I
- Partake in the daily operations meeting with the OIM, Senior Toolpusher and other rig department heads. Authority I
- Monitor the application of the Company Preventative Maintenance System program within the drilling department.Authority I
- Review and approve all drilling related work permits. Authority II
- Supervise equipment preparation for impending drilling operations. Authority II
- Assist in planning the job activities of the drilling department and associated activities. Authority II
- Ensure that well control requirements are in place according to operational requirements – assist in supervising well killing operations in an emergency situation.Authority II
- Perform all well control calculations (i.e. mud weight increase, initial and final circulating pressures, number of strokes, et cetera).Authority II
- Assist the Senior Toolpusher or OIM in coordinating the activities of third party personnel responsible for various aspects of the well program.Authority II
- Review the daily drilling operations report for accuracy and approve accordingly.Authority II
- Prepare Requisition Purchase Orders for equipment or parts necessary to keep the drilling operation free of downtime. Assist in ensuring sufficient stock of parts and materials are maintained Authority II
- Assist in the planning, organisation and supervision of rig move operations Authority II
- Maintain proper communication with the Senior Toolpusher and OIM regarding the progress of drilling and associated operations. Authority II
- Recommend adjustments to drilling parameters as necessary so as to improve the overall drilling operation’s performance Authority III
- Promote and maintain an effective working relationship with other departments, third party personnel and Client Representatives.
Education:
- High school diploma or equivalent. Work experience and demonstrated ability of oral and written communications may be substituted in lieu of formal education.
- Knowledge of all technical calculations required for the safe operation of the drilling.
- Basic computer skills.
- Valid medical and vaccination certificate.
Definition of Decision Making Authority:
Authority I: To act.
Authority II: To act but inform supervisor and/or other interested parties.
Authority III: To obtain supervisor’s approval before acting.
