The successful candidate shall be responsible to the Rector in the management of the Library Department.
Duties:
- Ensure that the Library is stocked with current books, journals, non-book materials and other materials;
- Ensure that housekeeping duties are performed daily in the Library;
- Supervise the preparation of working timetable for subordinates;
- Ensure efficient running of the Polytechnic’s e-library;
- Serve as a Public Relations Officer for the Library;
- Ensure that books and other materials are properly classified and catalogued;
- Supervise the preparation of Accession Register and Acquisition Register
- Any other duties that may be assigned from time to time by the Rector
Required Skills or Experience
- Must have a minimum of Masters Degree in Library Science or Studies;
- Must have at least ten (10) years post qualification experience in a Senior Management position in the field of Librarianship in a tertiary institution, industry or any relevant public service organization; or
- Must have served as Deputy Librarian for at least four (4) years
- Must have at least fifteen (15) refereed publications since appointment as a Librarian; at least five (5) of which should have been published after promotion to Deputy Librarian;
- Must possess a very good communication and inter personal skills
- Membership of a Professional Body in Librarianship would be an added advantage
- Computer literacy is required
The Deputy Librarian is an Assistant to the Librarian.
Duties:
- Oversees the duties of a number of Senior Assistant Librarians and Assistant Librarians;
- Performs the duties of a Senior Assistant Librarian at a higher level of responsibility;
- Be responsible to the Librarian in the discharge of Library duties
- Supervise and train subordinate staff;
- Provide inputs for Departmental budgeting;
- Any other duties that may be assigned from time to time by the Librarian
Required Skills or Experience
- Must have a minimum of Masters Degree in Library Science or Studies;
- Must have at least ten (10) refereed publications;
- Must have served as Senior Assistant Librarian for at least three (3) years in a tertiary institution; OR Must have at least six (6) years post qualification experience in Senior Management position in the field of Librarianship in industry or any relevant public service organization
Duties:
- Assists in the supervision of the work of subordinates staff such as filing of documents, registration and distribution of mails/memos/letters, etc
- Assists in recording minutes at meetings
- Assists in word processing of minutes of meetings and reports, letters, memos, notices etc
- Assists in receiving visitors to offices;
- Assists in responding to inquiries from both internal and external public;
- Assists in managing telephone calls to and from offices;
- Assists in keeping records of office consumables
Required Skills or Experience
- Must have a minimum of 1st degree in Administration or Management or HND in Sec & Mgt. Studies awarded by a recognized institution or
- 50% completion of Professional Certificate e.g. ICSA or
- Private Secretary Certificate awarded by a recognized institution with a minimum of 2 years relevant post qualification experience
- Computer literacy is required in especially Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint
